FOR SALE: One McIntosh MVP861 Disc player in fantastic condition.If anyone ever tells you that all disc players sound about the same they have not heard this McIntosh player. The MVP861 was, when it came out, state of the art in terms of both it’s video and audio performance. Now that Blu-Ray is THE THING, I doubt that anyone will even care about its video performance. BUT THE SOUND! This player will stand toe-to-toe with even the current McIntosh MCD301 in terms of sound quality. Although this player is used, it is in amazingly great shape. The glass looks super, the chassis is great, the remote looks hardly used, and we even have the owner’s manual, power cord, and McIntosh box-within-a-box to go with it. We wanted to make sure it will give its new owner years of great service, so we had the local authorized service center go through it from A-to-Z. I even used it in my own system for a day. It sounds as good as I remember. This player has a full set of multi-channel outputs, a set of pure 2-channel music outputs, digital outputs, and even true BALANCED (XLR) outputs. Most players with BALNCED outputs simply convert the unbalanced signals to balanced at the jack. This is better than nothing. It allows the use of balanced cables, which are almost immune to noise pickup along their length. The MVP861 is, however, different and better. The Digital-to-Analog (D-A) converters in this player have true differential outputs. This means that if you use the Balanced outputs, you have cancellation of noise and inaccuracies in the conversion process. The difference can be easily heard, with greater detail of the sound. All newer McIntosh preamps and processors have Balanced inputs. If yours does not, think of this feature as future-proofing yourself, sound-wise. Try a few DVD-Audio concert discs. They are a treat. Moreover, rediscover how good you regular music CDs can sound when played on a McIntosh player. The audio circuits in the MVP861 reveal every last detail from your discs, yet sound SMOOTH. That’s the McIntosh secret; ease of listening without “digital fatigue”. Yes, you CAN hear the difference a McIntosh makes. On the rear panel are digital outputs (coax and optical), multichannel audio, two channel audio (balanced and unbalanced) and all sorts of video connections (not HDMI, since this is not Blue-Ray). Power Control jacks and DATA jacks allow you to hook up any recent McIntosh Stereo OR Home Theater processor or preamp and have your preamp’s remote operate the MVP861 player for your convenience. CONDITION: About as good as it gets for a used piece. The only blemish I can find on it is a HAIRLINE scratch on the TOP of the RIGHT front panel END CAP and a MINUTE nick on the left end cap. They are so minor you will probably laugh. If you care about it, just order a new end-cap from McIntosh. It goes on in minutes. PRICING: We are setting the RESERVE at only $988.00.
